How does the America represented by these artifacts compare to the America represented in The Great Gatsby? Refer to specific artifacts in your response. 100 word minimum.
America represented in these artifacts is similar to in the Great Gatsby because in both times, the American culture revolves a lot around music and parties. The artifact that represents this the most is headphones. Two people brought in headphones because music is important to everyone. It also shows how the times have changed and music has changed since the 1920's but it still had a huge impact and brought people together.
The artifacts that people brought in to represent america are similar to the Great Gatsby, because in the Great Gatsby there was a lot of music and this time period was revolved around the jazz era. The headphones represented music in the American Culture. even back then in the Gatsby time period music was one of people's top priorities. During the Gatsby time period music was different and the style of it was different to from now a days, but the meaning still means the same. We use music now a days the same way they would in the Great Gatsby. You see music in parties, weddings, big get together's, etc. That's exactly what they used it for back in the time frame of Gatsby.
The America represented by these artifacts compare to the America represented in The Great Gatsby because during the 1920's there was a lot of music and parties. In class, a lot of people brought in headphones and things that represented the music they listen to. Also, people followed all of the trends. New money wanted to impress Old money. Now a days, people are so concerned about what others think of them and that was represented though the Love my body campaign picture. It may seem like times have changed but artifacts still represent the same things.
American artifacts that were represented in class compare to America represented in Great Gatsby because both show how music has risen and become an everyday and anytime thing for people in America. Also the headphones that people brought in represent the growth of technology and how it displays music.
The artifacts brought in by the class represented brand names, music and self image. An item that represented a brand was the can of coke. During the 1920s everyone had to have the best to impress. This would be a can of coke instead of the just the generic cola. This is also a reality of today. People are obsessed with brand instead of the quality of the product. Headphones were brought in to represent the importance of music in our culture. Jazz was very important in the 1920s just like other types of music are popular today. An ad for the "love yourself" campaign was brought in. This represents the importance of your image in today's society. This was also a big deal in the 1920s in regards to new money always trying to impress old money. American artifacts are a representation of America today and in the 1920s.
Many artifacts that were brought in were related to society. Like music, McDonald's, self image, growing up, innocence and working class. There were headphones to represent the influence music has on our society. Music has many positive effects to it but can even have some downsides. But different genres and songs shape our culture. Just like in the Great Gatsby jazz shaped their society. Also I brought in an image of Doves campaign of loving your body versus Victoria Secret models. Our society has a sick vision on every magazine, tv and social media site that girls and boys have to look a certain way. This has had a huge impact on our society it's insane. Just like in the Great Gatsby many people were judged off what they were and looked like. Both today and in the Great Gatsby, the way your appearance was had a major impact on first impressions and social statuses. It's awful that society hadn't changed yet. You can relate many modern day American artifacts to the Great Gatsby.
A lot of artifacts that were brought into class had to do with music such as headphones, and brand names such as a coca- cola label. Those are both really important things in society today with people as it was in Great Gatsby. Jazz was the popular music that everyone got together and listened to, and had positive effects on people like most people listen to music today for positive effects. For some people music helps them. In the Great Gatsby new money wanted to impress old money and thats a lot like people today. Everyone lives to impress other people, with their fancy cars, million dollar house or big parties they have. Everyone cares what everyone else around them thinks. Society hasn't changed very much since the 1920's, just technology has.
Most of the artifacts brought in to represent america from today are the same as the artifacts from Gatsby just more modern. For example someone brought in an american flag and just like in the time of Gatsby it means the same thing. But the difference between the two are the new flag was made in china, an american flag was made in china. that just goes to show people don't have pride in craftsmanship anymore they just care about where they can get their product made the cheapest so they can make the most money. But other products like football cleats and McDonald's are still the same as they were in the in Gatsby's time they're just a little different. like the McDonald is still the same but now it shows the calories and serving size on it since people care about their health much more now than they did in Gatsbys time.
The American Artifact assignment proves how things change over time. In the time period of The Great Gatsby shows how from 1920's to 2014 that things changed drastically. But their are also a lot of similarities that between people's American Dream. The tablet shows technology and in 1920 they used technology by radios. Now technology is more advanced than before but it's still technology. The barbies show what people want to look like and their American Dream. In the 1920's the women were flappers and this is when they started showing more skin. Their skirts and dresses got shorter. The headphones represent music and even in the 1920's jazz music became more popular. Now their are all different genres of music and everyone has their own music they listen too. The American Artifacts reflect the similarities in American Culture throughout the years.
The American artifacts compare to the America represented in The Great Gatsby because they have similar characteristics. In the barbie picture, women have this ideal perfect image and are more flashy. In the Great Gatsby girls in this time period are changing their ideal image and are becoming more flashy with shorter hair. These connect because both have an ideal image they are trying to portray and both have time periods have girls that dress in a more showing way. Another connection can be with sports. The picture with all the different sports balls connects to the Great Gatsby because all the balls represent the American Dream with wanting to be good at sports and having a sports be a big part of the everyday life. Many goals of people in America today including my own are to be a professional athlete. This connects to the Great Gatsby because Jordan is a professional golfer and it shows that the people in the Great Gatsby are into sports too and want to be professionals. My last connection is with the dollar bill. The dollar bill is is what America is run on and everyone's goal is to have a lot of money and be super rich. This connects to the Great Gatsby because many of the characters are very wealthy with huge mansions for homes.
The American Artifact represents the 1920's by how much the world could change in one period of time. For example technology has changed so much since the 1920's. Like cars, phones, cooking equipment, and so much more. It made our life better and changed how people lived their lives because it takes so much more stress away from most of the things we all do.
The American Artifact museum assignment represent every change in America. The Dollar bill represent is major example of America Change in culture and economic. The valued of the bill had change over time also the barbies they represent how America girls want to be how they want to have a perfect figure. A Truck represent economic because in the pass many people used farming to fix the economic. Two people brought in headphones because music is important to everyone. The headphones represented music in the American Culture. even back then in the Gatsby time period music was one of people's top priorities.
The American Artifacts that we have today have some of the same representations as they did in The Great Gatsby. For example with headphones we see them as an item that plays music depending on what our mood is. In The Great Gatsby they play music because they're happy and having a good time so they used happy music at the parties. Also in today's world Mcdonalds is one of the largest food corporations that is very successful, this connects the The Great Gatsby time period because if you had a large corporation like this you were very likely to be rich and successful.
The American artifacts that were brought into class represented freedom and music. For example the 20's were the age of party and fun. That could not be achieved without music. One artifact brought to out class were headphones, these to me represent your freedom to listen to whatever you would like to. The ability to have fun with friends or yourself. In the Great Gatsby, many of the people at Gatsby's parties sought fun and music. Another artifact that was brought to class was a dolla bill. The dollar connects to the Great Gatsby because at East and West Egg, both have money and want more.
The America represented by these artifacts compared to the America represented in The Great Gatsby aren't that different as though they appear to be. For example as I was looking over the table I saw an image of two groups of women. This is I believe is showing how women are changing in present day America. Just like in The Great Gatsby. The women who were original prim and proper are now reaching out and becoming more independent on the selves and their image of a normal would which was strict is now care free and fun loving girls.
The Merican Artifact museum assignment represents the modernization of America. In America today people are much more inclined to use technology. In Gatsby the technology was not as advanced. Money plays a very large part in Gatsby just as it does today. People are judged based on their class very much in Gatsby because if you don't have money you are nothing to society. That is the same as today because the rich are idolized and the poor is an example of what you don't want to be. The artifacts show the changes and similarities between America then and now.
The America represented by the artifacts that were brought in compares to the America represented by the Great Gatsby because the 1920's was an era of wealth, business and new technologies. One of the artifacts brought in was a dollar bill. This represents how most people were able to make a good amount of money at this time. Another artifact was a business card which represents American business and how anyone could do what they wanted and start a business if they wanted to. The final artifact, which is the one i brought in, is a 1930 Farmall Regular tractor. This represents the new advancements in technology because at the time it was the best tractor made and for the first time it was a single tractor that could do all the jobs on a farm. The Artifacts represent how time has changed but many things still represent the same ideas.
The American Artifacts compare to the America represented in the Great Gatsby because they all relate to something in that time period. For example dollar bill represents the money that was going around. Gatsby had a lot of money because he had a huge mansion and threw many parties. The music also represents the music that was playing at the parties. Even though the music was way different than it is today music still had the same purpose as it does today.
A lot of the artifacts brought in for this assignment can represent both the america of today and the 20's because things like the dollar bill represent the importance of money today but also in the 20's. In the great gatsby people are judged by there economic status and it is still that way today. But also some things that were brought in only represent today like the McDonalds menu represents how Today we rely a lot on ease and convinience. THings like cell phones and computers have made people today very lazy a nd laid back and I dont think that in the 20's people were like this
The american artifact museum America compares to the America represented in the Great Gatsby because things like headphones represent how music has always been a big part of culture for america. Furthermore things like the business card shows how this country could be argued to be built on business due to its capitalist way of government letting anyone who has the determination to make their own success and fortune.
The America represented in the Artifact project was one that has gotten worse over the years. For example, today, Mc dolands and the whole fast food operation has gone totally out of hand, the owners of the corporations are makin' bank while its customers are getting fat. Back in the day, there was no fast food and people most of the time cooked for them selves. On the other hand, the idea of sports had gotten better. For example, back in the day, sports were a big activity but they didn't play the role that they do today. Today, sports are the main concept in many people's lives and they are a huge industry in America. These artifacts compare to those of Gatsby's because Gatsby's artifacts sort of have the same concept. For example, today we have headphones which provide people with music to relax and in Gatsby there is music in his parties and that is how people get down. Overall, the artifacts is Gatsby and today are pretty similar.
The artifacts represent the state of America during both today and the 1920s, where technology has evolved (i.e. radio), when big businesses thrived while small businesses fail, a time of unequal distribution of wealth among people and a time where everyone had time for recreational and sensational activities to spend new leisure time with. The artifacts which greatly help relate new America to 1920s America would be the dollar, the kindle, the business card, the Mcdonalds menu and the baseball bat. The single dollar represents the idea that few Americans were wealthy while the majority were poor in the Great Gatsby. The Kindle is a representation of the evolution of technology of the new decade, much like the radio during the 1920s. The Business card and the Mcdonalds menu explains a relationship between small businesses and big businesses: small businesses had to work harder than big businesses in order to survive. The baseball bat directly relates to baseball, now a national pastime played for leisure in both the 1920s and today. As you can see, the artifacts greatly relate new America to Roaring 20s America under these sort of terms.
The items in our "American Artifact Museum" were like the novel "The Great Gatsby" because they all have to do with large name brand companies who make a lot of money. For example, in our museum we had items from large clothing item companies like American Eagle or Hollister. These items connect to the novel because many conversations and parties in the novel deal with showing off money. Gatsby's parties include him spending extravagant amounts of money to show off for all his guest.

ReplyDeleteThe American Artifact museum assignment represent the changes of America over time. The Roaring twenties is a major example of an American change in culture. Victorian motherhood was declining and women became more risqué. The American artifacts for example the nutritional facts represent the original Pure Food and Drug Act implemented during Theodore Roosevelt's Administration. It also shows how far we have come as a nation as well as changes in society. My example of credit proved to relate to the Great Gatsby because of the amount of spending and everyone trying to have the latest thing. The new money tries to impress old money by showing off their cars and houses. The stock market was also becoming a new thing for people to invest into. People are becoming more health aware rather than not caring what is in your food. Whereas the 1920s has become an era of extravagant parties and better morals in society. The 18th amendment was a change in the constitution that prohibited the sale and consumption of alcohol. However it proved that it caused crime and violence. The American Artifacts reflects on the changes in American culture as well as modernization.
